I have to wake up as early as 5am to prepare myself for Thaipusam. This is my first experience attending such occasion. Thaipusam is a Hindu festival celebrated by the Tamil community on the full moon in the Tamil month of Thai. The festival commemorate both the birthday of Murugan, the youngest son of god Shiva and his wife Parvati, and the occasion when Parvati gave Murugan a vel or spear so that he could vanquish the evil demon. Therefore, you can see some devotees have their mouth pierced with vel. Religious praying and dancing (Kavadi) is everywhere during the event. Devotees will carry a pot of milk as an offering to their god Murugan inside the Batu Cave.
